How to Stay Motivated Through the End of the Semester

If you’re anything like me, you start to feel less and less motivated as the end of the semester draws closer and closer. With Thanksgiving Break only a few days away, it's hard to imagine having to come back to class for only a couple more weeks. When I start feeling this way (which trust me, I’m feeling it now) here are some things that help me push through.
The first thing I do is set little goals for myself. I’m sure you have been hounded about the importance of setting goals your entire life, so I’ll spare you the explanation (heres a good article that explains it), but let me tell you, they can really work. Try setting goals like studying for a full 2 hours at a time. That means phone off or away, TV off, and only focusing on whatever material you need to study or homework you need to get done. Even if it means sitting there, doing nothing for 5 minutes, or typing random words onto a document of your computer, your thoughts will come and before you know it, the two hours will pass. Who knows? You may get wrapped up with what your doing and continue after the 2 hours are up. But one thing is for certain. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT look at your phone. Once you do, it’s so easy to waste time on it and so hard to put it back down.

If you still need a little bit more of a push (don’t worry, we’ve all been there) then try giving yourself a little reward after each goal you accomplish. I’m not saying go on a shopping spree or binge a lot of food, but do something that you enjoy. One of my professors once told me that sugar was the best thing to get your mind going as well as keep you focused, and here's an article to prove it. With that being said, take a little snack break between goals and relax for a minute before picking up again. Maybe go outside, stretch and walk around for a few minutes to get a breath of fresh air. Whichever you choose, you will still get that little break from school which will hopefully help get you through the rest of the semester.

Don’t worry if your not in college, these tactics will work whether your working on a large project for work, or are in high school experiencing the same symptoms. Just remember to push through, you got this!
